The area was cordoned off in April, while four homes were seized by local security forces, the home ministry said.

There have been no reports of casualties in the attack, which killed 11 people, state TV reported, as police worked to restore calm to the city.

The mayor of the city of Amman, who did not want to identify the assailants, told AFP that police had arrested 18 militants after a standoff, police said.
